Twin Cities Con – Where Fandom Comes to Life

Cosplay is one thing online.
It’s another thing entirely in person.

Twin Cities Con was a full weekend of pure creative expression. I attended two of the three days, and I don’t think I saw the same character twice.

The scale of imagination on display was wild.

From screen-accurate superhero builds to deep-cut anime characters and nostalgic throwbacks, every aisle was a moving gallery. What I love about conventions like this isn’t just the craftsmanship — it’s the joy. People aren’t just dressed up; they’re embodying the characters they love.

As a photographer, that energy is gold.

There’s something powerful about documenting people in their element — fans meeting celebrity guests, friends coordinating elaborate group costumes, kids wide-eyed at seeing their favorite characters walking toward them.

And the celebrity guest area added another layer entirely. Watching fans interact with actors and creators they’ve followed for years is always a reminder of how meaningful pop culture can be.

By the end of Day Two, I was feeling it. Con floors are no joke. I thought about returning for Day Three, but I was pretty tuckered out. Two days of nonstop color, movement, and crowd navigation is a marathon.

Still, it was worth every step.

Events like this show a different side of what I document — not performers on stage, but fans becoming the spectacle themselves.
