The Belfast Cowboys at the Medina Ballroom

The Belfast Cowboys – Medina Ballroom

I’ve heard the name for years.

If you’ve spent any time around the Minnesota music scene, you’ve heard of The Belfast Cowboys. Somehow, though, I’d never caught them live — until they opened for the Gear Daddies at the Medina Ballroom.

I won’t make that mistake again.

From the jump, the energy was high and the sound was big. And I mean big. A four-man horn section will do that. The brass added punch, depth, and that unmistakable soul-infused tone that immediately gets a room moving.

There’s a familiarity to what they do — not in a copycat way, but in a comforting, timeless way. The kind of sound that pulls from classic rock, soul, and blues traditions and blends it into something that feels both polished and loose at the same time.

The horns were the highlight visually and sonically. In photos, they create movement and dimension. In the room, they elevate everything. Every chorus felt fuller. Every groove felt deeper.

For a band I’d only known by reputation, they more than lived up to it.
